BC Cups 3 & 4:
NR Challenge sent a team of six athletes that train at PSA to compete in
Biathlon BC Cups 3 and 4, Quesnel, Jan 17-18, 2004. Results were very
good. Claire Corbett continued her winning streak with 2 gold medals in the Sr. Girls category, while Laurel Priest, still recovering from her broken wrist, came third in both races in the same category. Laurel will be in the same category next year, when Claire moves up. Tyler Ronagahn also had good results, placing first and second in the two Sr. Boys races. Claire, Tyler and Laurel were selected to the BC Team on the basis of these results and will represent BC at the Nationals, Valcartier, PQ in February.
Our three beginners, Karina Bakker in the Juvenile division, Katia
Zubkhova and Becky Ronaghan in the Jr. Girls division, need to get more
on-snow shooting experience to improve their race results. At the moment, we have good to superior ski skills and good shooting skills, but can't
quite put them together consistently in races.
Clay Ronaghan was the coach on this trip. The overall results were
excellent, and good enough to get Claire, Tyler and Laurel selected to the
BC Team. Three out of three is not bad at all!
Cadet Biathlon:
At the Provincial Championships at Mt. Washington, Jan 31-Feb.01, two
biathletes from 102 Sea, Fraser Corps, were selected to the Provincial Team
for the Cadet Nationals. Katia Zubkhova won gold in the Jr. Female
Individual race. Vladimir Smirnov won gold in the Sr. Male Individual
Race, both athletes train with Nordic Racers as well as 102 Fraser. 102
Fraser also won silver medals in the Male Unit Individual, Female Unit
Individual, Male Unit Patrol and Female Unit Patrol Races, a strong, consistent performance unmatched by any other corps. Congratulations to the Fraser Corps biathletes and their coach, Pat Douglas.
